Figures make mechanics easier to understand: free-body diagrams, stress distributions, photos of real structures. The image dialog lets you place them exactly where they help.
Inserting an image
- Place the cursor where the image should go.
- Click Insert Image in the toolbar.
- Click the upload area and choose a file (PNG, JPG, WebP or GIF). A preview appears and the area turns green.
- Choose the layout and the width (see below).
- Write a caption. It is shown under the image and also used as its alternative text.
- Click Insert.
Layout and width
Changing an image
Double-click the image in the editor. The same dialog opens with the current layout, width and caption, so you can adjust them. To remove an image, click it once and press Delete.
Tips for good figures
- Prefer clear diagrams with large labels; many readers use phones.
- Crop away empty margins before uploading.
- Always write a caption: it helps readers, screen readers and search engines.
- Use images you made yourself or are allowed to use, and cite the original in your sources.
Images are optimised automatically (WebP format, lazy loading), so pages stay fast. Readers can click an image to see it larger.
